are available, as well as for several other

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene has approved the Control of Biohazards Course for 4.5 credits.
-
The Control of Biohazards Course is designed to
prepare individuals planning to take the
National Registry of
Certified Microbiologist Specialist Microbiologist SM(NRCM) in Biological Safety Microbiology exam.
The NRCM exam is available online. The application deadline is August 1,
2009. Qualified candidates may take the exam any day in the month of October.
-
In response to the changing
workforce, the NRCM also has added another eligibility pathway for
Specialist Microbiologists in Biological Safety. Applicants with a
bachelor’s degree and ten years of full-time, postbaccalaureate work
experience within the past 15 years in the appropriate exam specialty area
are now eligible to apply. Previously, only applicants with microbiology
coursework were eligible. This change is reflective of how a growing number
of biological safety professionals are entering the field with on-the-job
training instead of a traditional academic background. In today’s economy,
it is an ideal time to seek the SM designation and remind your employer of
your expertise and value to them. Visit
www.microbiologycert.org to
apply!
-
The Control of Biohazards Course will also appeal to people who are already certified SM (NRCM)s,
RBPs or CBSPs and want to renew their certification. Starting in 2014, ABSA
will be initiating a 5-year renewal of RBPs. This will give all RBPs
(including those awarded RBP before 2014) a minimum of 5 years to obtain the
required 40 credits to renew their RBP.
-
The Control of Biohazards Course also provides biosafety practice and management information for individuals applying to the
American Biological Safety Association for
Registered Biological Safety Professional or Certified Biological Safety Professional titles."
-
This in depth biosafety course will be presented at the Johns Hopkins Mt.
Washington Conference Center, Baltimore MD.
-
The course runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., ends Friday at 1:00 p.m.
